Work Assignments
"Some people sit back and let their careers happen to them, which is very easy to do if you take the assignment that's given to you, do it well, then take the next assignment that's handed to you. It's different at Cleary Gottlieb."

In fact, lawyers join practice groups based on both their preferences and our clients' needs. Senior lawyers charged with staffing give significant weight to your requests, while also considering the skills you'll need to sharpen in order to move your career ahead.
Once you are settled into a practice, our system for feedback and reviews lets you measure your progress against the benchmarks set out in our Core Skills and Cleary Core Curriculum.
For example, if you feel that you haven't received an adequate opportunity to strengthen your skills defending depositions, bring it to our attention. Or if it's time for you to supervise a document review process instead of participating in it, let us know.
We'll move on your behalf, seeking cases that will build those skills, because we're interested in advancing your career, and helping you make the most of your talents.
