London, Paris, Hong Kong. Europe and Asia — overseas assignments have attracted more than a few New York associates — and in turn, we have made practicing abroad a tradition at Cleary Gottlieb.

We generally ask that you first practice in New York for one or two years, before going abroad. We accept requests for short-term (three to six months) and long-term (three years) assignments.

To smooth the transition to an overseas assignment, Cleary Gottlieb provides associates with practical assistance. We help them locate housing, provide moving allowances, and offer foreign language training.

Right now, some 50 associates from New York and Washington are working in our offices in Europe, Asia and South America, where they will gain a fresh perspective on their practices — and experience the cohesiveness that defines Cleary Gottlieb.
