Robert K. Williams is counsel based in the Hong Kong office.

Mr. Williams practice focuses on international corporate matters, including debt and equity capital markets transactions (with particular emphasis on China-related offerings and offerings by sovereigns), liability management transactions and restructurings, private equity investments and other mergers and acquisitions and equity derivatives. He also provides advice to clients on the U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and similar laws.

Mr. Williams is distinguished as a leading overseas expert in the Philippines by Chambers Asia Guide to Asia’s Leading Lawyers for Business and Chambers Global Guide to the World’s Leading Lawyers and as a leading lawyer among Hong Kong-based debt capital markets lawyers in IFLR 1000.

Mr. Williams joined the firm in 1997 and became counsel in 2006. From 1997 to 1999, he was resident in the Washington D.C. office. Mr. Williams received a J.D. degree from The University of Texas School of Law in 1997 and a B.A. degree from Rice University in 1984. He also studied at Taiwan National Normal University’s Mandarin Training Center from 1987 to 1988. Prior to studying law, Mr. Williams served as second secretary at the United States Embassy in Beijing (1988-90) and as vice consul at the United States Consulate General in Hong Kong (1991-94).

Mr. Williams is a member of the Bars in Texas and the District of Columbia, and is a solicitor of the High Court of Hong Kong. He is proficient in Mandarin Chinese.
