Jean-Louis Joris is senior counsel of the firm, based in the Brussels office. He joined the firm in 1975 in New York, became a partner in 1983 and senior counsel in 2009.
As an active partner, Mr. Joris' practice was focused on mergers and acquisition and financial transactions. He was distinguished for many years as a leading corporate/M&A lawyer by
Chambers Global and
Chambers Europe.
Mr. Joris is a member of the Bars in Brussels and New York, and a former member of the Brussels Bar Council (
conseil de l'Ordre). He currently devotes a significant part of his time to bar-related activities. He is a director of the Board of the Federation of the French and German speaking bars of Belgium (
OBFG) and president of the Multi-Jurisdictional Law Firms Committee of the Council of European bars and Law Societies (CCBE). He is also chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Brussels Bar (
Ordre français).
He is a founding member and vice-chairman of the
Institut d'Etudes sur la Justice, a private institution that studies and promotes public debate on matters relating to the Belgian Judiciary, and is a board member of a number of charitable organizations.
Mr. Joris' native language is French, and he is fluent in English and Dutch.
