Cleary Gottlieb Named to The National Law Journal’s “Intellectual Property Hot List”
May 7, 2012
Cleary Gottlieb was named to The National Law Journal’s inaugural “Intellectual Property Hot List” as one of the nation's 20 top law firms with practices that focus significantly on patent, copyright or trademark legal services. The special report also identifies firms that have demonstrated creative strategies for litigation, patent prosecution, licensing and other transactional work. Cleary Gottlieb was singled out for having “distinguished itself by developing a unique bankruptcy auction system for roughly 6,000 Nortel patents.” The report also cited the “headline-making” work of the firm’s IP practice on:
- Google’s proposed $12.5 billion acquisition of Motorola Mobility.
- Grupo Bimbo’s acquisition of Sara Lee’s North American Fresh Bakery business.
- The defeat of two trademark challenges to Bridgeport, Connecticut-based People’s United Bank’s ability to use its name in Massachusetts.
Leonard Jacoby and
Daniel Ilan were both quoted on the extraordinary year the practice has experienced.
The “Intellectual Property Hot List” appears in the
The National Law Journal's May 7 issue. Selections were made by the newspaper’s editors based upon their reporting and nomination information submitted by law firms. Decisions were based on an evaluation of each firm’s litigation results at the trial or appellate levels, including verdicts and settlements; transactions; or other matters completed during calendar year 2011.
The National Law Journal, published by ALM, is the nation’s leading weekly legal newspaper. Every issue features recent court decisions, jury verdicts, expert practitioner columns, as well as reports focusing on emerging trends.
