  • With no formal departments or rotations for any of its lawyers, Cleary Gottlieb offers summer associates the opportunity to enjoy assignments in a variety of practice areas or focus on a particular discipline, in a flexible and diverse environment.
  • Exposure to “real world” practice where summer associates play active and meaningful roles in ongoing matters.
  • Potential for rotations in one of our 10 overseas offices, with 9 out of 14 summers from the 2008 summer class going overseas.
  • All summer associates who express an interest receive pro bono assignments from our broad pro bono practice.
  • Extensive formal and informal training, including summer lunches and weekly meetings hosted by various practice areas, a two-day corporate training seminar, an interactive litigation “bootcamp” with a mock deposition exercise and office-wide CLE sessions.
  • As a complement to the formal training and partner supervision, our summer associates benefit from personal mentoring from the associates who serve on our Summer Program Committee and as junior “siblings.”
  • Wide array of cultural and recreational events exploring what Washington, DC life has to offer – in 2008 they ranged from partner-hosted dinners to cocktails and dinner at the Newseum, from Kennedy Center theatre tickets to a tour of Washington, DC on a Segway, from tubing excursions on the Potomac to participation in various projects to benefit Habitat for Humanity.
