David Gelfand is a partner based in the Washington, D.C. office.

His practice focuses on a broad range of antitrust matters, including U.S. litigation, notifying mergers and acquisitions in the U.S. and other jurisdictions, and providing antitrust advice to clients regarding potential transactions and various business practices.

His clients have included companies in various industries, including computer software, computer hardware, information services, electronic platforms, chemicals, metals, pharmaceuticals, product manufacturing, retailing, and oil and gas.

Mr. Gelfand is distinguished as one of the leading antitrust lawyers by Chambers Global, Chambers USA, The Legal 500 U.S., Benchmark Litigation: The Definitive Guide to America’s Leading Litigation Firms and Attorneys, Washingtonian magazine, and Lawdragon 500. He was named a “Life Science Star” in the inaugural edition of Euromoney’s LMG Life Sciences 2012. In 2003, Mr. Gelfand was named by The American Lawyer as one of the "45 Under 45" best lawyers in the United States.

Transactions in which Mr. Gelfand has recently been involved include Google/AdMob, Hertz/Dollar Thrifty, GlaxoSmithKline/Stiefel Laboratories, Google/DoubleClick, and MolsonCoors/SABMiller. In antitrust litigation, he has recently represented various clients including KME, Henkel, ArcelorMittal, sanofi-aventis, and Whirlpool.

Mr. Gelfand joined the firm in 1991 and became a partner in 1997. From 2001 to 2004, he was resident in the firm’s Brussels office, where he handled matters before the European Commission and national competition authorities. Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Gelfand was associated with the law firm of Miller, Cassidy, Larroca & Lewin, where his practice included civil and criminal cases, jury trials, and appellate litigation. He received a J.D. degree, summa cum laude, from Georgetown University Law Center in 1987 and an undergraduate degree, magna cum laude, from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in 1981.

Mr. Gelfand is a member of the Bars in Maryland and the District of Columbia, where he is also admitted to practice before the U.S. District Courts and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth and District of Columbia Circuits.
