Eng-Lye Ong is an associate based in the Hong Kong office.

Mr. Ong’s practice focuses on international financing. He has experience in bank lending and capital markets transactions, including leveraged finance, asset finance and derivatives.

Mr. Ong joined the firm in 2006. From 2006 to 2011, he was resident in the London office. Prior to joining Cleary Gottlieb, he worked at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer in London, The Royal Bank of Scotland (on secondment), and Freehills in Sydney. From 1997 to 1998 he served as a law clerk to the Honourable Justice Mary G. Gaudron of the High Court of Australia.

Mr. Ong received a B.Com. degree in 1993 and an LL.B. degree with first class honours in 1996, both from the University of Queensland. In 2000 he received a B.C.L. degree from the University of Oxford, where he was a Commonwealth Scholar.

Mr. Ong is a solicitor of the Senior Courts of England and Wales, a solicitor of the High Court of Hong Kong, and is also admitted to practice in New South Wales, Australia.
