With no formal departments or rotations for any of its lawyers, Cleary Gottlieb offers summer associates the opportunity to enjoy assignments in a variety of practice areas or focus on a particular discipline, in a flexible and diverse environment.

Exposure to “real world” practice where summer associates play active and meaningful roles in ongoing matters.

Potential for rotations in one of our 10 overseas offices, with 9 out of 14 summers from the 2008 summer class going overseas.

All summer associates who express an interest receive pro bono assignments from our broad pro bono practice.

Extensive formal and informal training, including summer lunches and weekly meetings hosted by various practice areas, a two-day corporate training seminar, an interactive litigation “bootcamp” with a mock deposition exercise and office-wide CLE sessions.

As a complement to the formal training and partner supervision, our summer associates benefit from personal mentoring from the associates who serve on our Summer Program Committee and as junior “siblings.”

Wide array of cultural and recreational events exploring what Washington, DC life has to offer – in 2008 they ranged from partner-hosted dinners to cocktails and dinner at the Newseum, from Kennedy Center theatre tickets to a tour of Washington, DC on a Segway, from tubing excursions on the Potomac to participation in various projects to benefit Habitat for Humanity.
