Niklas Maydell is an associate based in the Brussels office.

Mr. Maydell's practice focuses on international investment, commercial, and sports arbitration, as well as US and EU antitrust law.  Mr. Maydell is widely published on various aspects of public international law and has extensive experience in all major areas of EU law, including merger control, cartel enforcement, abuse of dominant position, sector specific regulation, and EU litigation.

Mr. Maydell joined the firm in 2008. He received an LL.M. degree from Columbia University Law School in 2008, where he was a Fulbright Scholar. Mr. Maydell holds a Ph.D. degree in law from the University of Vienna since 2008 (Dr. iur.) and graduated from University of Vienna Law School in 2004 (Mag. iur.). He also studied law at the Università degli Studi di Urbino in Italy. Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Maydell worked as an assistant professor at the Institute for European and Public International Law, Vienna University of Economics and Business. He also gained experience as a trainee at the Directorate-General for External Trade at the European Commission. Mr. Maydell holds the rank of Lieutenant in the Austrian Armed Forces where he has served in the infantry and the Department of Defense's international law division.

Mr. Maydell is a member of the Bar in New York. His native language is German, he is fluent in English and has proficient knowledge of Italian and French.
