Presentations: Indian Tax Developments Post-Vodafone and Recent Developments in International Tax Controversies

April 25, 2013

Overview

On April 25, 2013 Cleary Gottlieb hosted a seminar entitled “Indian Tax Developments Post-Vodafone and Recent Developments in International Tax Controversies.”

The presentation included our guest speaker and former partner, Nikhil Mehta, a member of Gray’s Inn Tax Chambers (London) and an Indian tax law expert. Mr. Mehta addressed recent tax developments in India in light of the Vodafone case and their implications for foreign investment in India. Additionally, a panel of our European and U.S. tax and corporate governance partners discussed the challenges faced by multinational corporations in managing tax controversies and exposures in light of the heightened scrutiny by tax authorities, the EU, OECD and G-20 of the arrangements by which many multinationals have achieved low effective tax rates.
