The race for cutting Europe’s emissions to net-zero starts now.
The Commission has released a broad-ranging package of legislative proposals to meet the new targets enshrined in the EU Climate Law. The new policies were announced under the label “Fit for 55” (after the 55% emissions reductions programmed by 2030). They aim to significantly reshape the energy and transportation markets, among others.
An expanded Emissions Trading System, a new carbon border tax on imports, a full stop to combustion engines by 2035.
