China

Cleary Gottlieb has had an active presence in Asia for over 25 years, beginning with the opening of our Hong Kong office in 1980. One of the first U.S. firms to establish an office in Asia, we have strengthened our commitment to the region over the years and now have approximately 35 lawyers involved in groundbreaking M&A, private equity, capital markets, restructuring and sovereign debt matters.

Centered in our Hong Kong and Beijing offices, the China practice group currently includes two partners, two counsel and thirteen associates who are fluent in Mandarin. Eight of our China practice professionals are based in Beijing, and the balance are based in Hong Kong. The China practice also draws on the firm’s other lawyers based in Hong Kong as well as the firm’s global resources, including numerous lawyers with Mandarin language skills in our other offices around the world, to provide clients seamless service and the best legal advice.
