Our German offices offer highly qualified German Referendare the possibility to spend a stage (Referendarstation) in either the Frankfurt or Cologne offices. In exceptional cases we offer Referendare to spend a part of their stage in another of our international offices. The aim of the stage is to give the Referendar a chance to work with and get to know us – and vice versa – with a view to possible permanent employment as an associate of the firm. Candidates should be able to demonstrate high academic achievement and a genuine interest in international business law.
Our Referendar program provides an introduction to the practice of law at Cleary Gottlieb. We aim to involve our Referendare in the firm’s practice as much as possible. The tasks of a Referendar may include drafting memoranda, briefs or contract clauses, participating in due diligence and client meetings and doing legal research. Each Referendar has an associate assigned to him/her to assist during the period of orientation. Our internal Continuing Legal Education program is also open to Referendare.
