New York: Training

  • In-house Summer Luncheon Series: We sponsor a series of summer lunches at the firm where partners introduce summer associates to our various practice areas, and notable guest speakers are invited to speak on topics of interest.
  • Weekly Practice Meetings: Summer associates are invited to weekly practice group meetings, where lawyers discuss recent assignments, practice updates and developments in the law.
  • Corporate: Summer associates participate in a two-day corporate training seminar during which lawyers from various transactional practice areas give presentations about their work and the skills necessary to practice corporate law.
  • Litigation: The firm sponsors a formal litigation workshop and an interactive litigation “bootcamp” in which summer associates are trained to take and defend depositions and then participate in deposition exercises.
  • Continuing Legal Education: Our summer associates are invited to attend our many regular CLE sessions throughout the summer.
  • On the Job Training: A great deal of informal training occurs as summer associates become active members of teams on transactions and cases, working directly with firm lawyers on all aspects of their assignments.
  • Spring Reception Training: This gathering in February provides an opportunity for summer associates to get a feel for the firm and to meet Cleary Gottlieb lawyers—as well as each other—before they join us in the summer.
