We offer New York-based summer associates the opportunity to spend six weeks during the summer in our offices in Paris, Brussels, London, Moscow, Frankfurt, Cologne, Rome, Milan, Hong Kong and Beijing. We have generally been able to offer assignments to most of the summer associates who have expressed an interest in spending time abroad.
We assign overseas rotations based on each summer associate’s particular preferences, language ability and practice area interests, as well as on the particular office’s needs. To ensure that each summer associate spending time in an overseas office is also adequately exposed to the New York office, summer associates interested in spending time abroad must spend a minimum of 12 weeks with the firm during the summer. Overseas office assignments generally occur in two stages, with the first stage beginning at the end of May and ending in early July and the second stage beginning in early July and ending in mid-August.
Summer associates are often also asked to travel to help with a client assignment or to assist an overseas office during a particularly busy period.
Summer associates have also split their time with us between our New York and Washington offices.
