New York: Women's Working Group

The Women’s Working Group is an ad hoc group of female lawyers of varying practice areas and levels of seniority. The WWG endeavors to provide a support network for our female lawyers, to organize activities promoting increased awareness of issues confronting female lawyers, and to serve as a vehicle for female lawyers to share with each other their thoughts about a variety of topics.

The WWG has sponsored a variety of projects, including a training session on career networking and professional development skills; a panel of Cleary Gottlieb alumnae discussing their post-Cleary Gottlieb professional experiences; a talk by Naomi Wolf, author, essayist and Cleary Gottlieb pro bono client, on the development of the Woodhull Institute for Ethical Leadership; a lunch program designed to improve the public speaking skills of female lawyers; and networking receptions with female clients.

The Women’s Working Group has also hosted lunches featuring prominent female speakers, including Stephanie Abramson, a Cleary Gottlieb alumna and general counsel of DoubleClick; Stephanie Nilva, Director of Break the Cycle in New York, a not-for-profit organization devoted to helping youths to live free from domestic and relationship violence that enlists Cleary Gottlieb lawyers to assist in their outreach efforts; Jessica Neuwirth, a former Cleary Gottlieb associate and President of Equality Now, about the organization’s work to protect and promote the human rights of women around the world; and Saira Rao, a former Cleary Gottlieb associate and recent novelist.
