Francesca M. Moretti is a senior attorney based in the Milan office

Ms. Moretti’s practice focuses on Italian and EU antitrust laws. She is specialized in cartel law but has also extensive experience in other areas of competition law such as abuse of dominance and State aids.

Ms. Moretti has been involved in major antitrust cases both at Italian and EU level. As regards her Italian competition practice, Ms. Moretti represented, among the companies, Italcementi’s subsidiaries Calcestruzzi and Cemencal in a procedure relating to an alleged market sharing agreement in the market for concrete as well as Rivoira of the Praxair Group in a proceeding concerning the market for industrial gases. As regards her EU practice, Ms. Moretti successfully represented Polimeri Europa and Syndial of the Eni Group in a proceeding concerning the synthetic rubber EPDM which was closed by the EU Commission without an infringement decision. Also, Ms. Moretti represented Alitalia in the appeal against the Commission’s State aid decision, which was annulled by the EU Court of First Instance. Ms. Moretti has been counsel to Italcementi and Dalmine in connection with proceedings in alleged cartels on market partitioning respectively in the cement and seamless tubes case, and to the Italian ferry company Adriatica di Navigazione in a procedure concerning alleged price-fixing in the market for ferry transport services.

Ms. Moretti has been a member of the editorial board of the law reviews Contratto e Impresa and Contratto e Impresa – Europa for many years. Her most recent publications include: the Italian “Anticompetitive Practices” chapter in Competition Cases from the European Union, I. Kokkoris (ed.), Sweet & Maxwell, 2007 (N. Ceraolo, E. Guerri and M. Siragusa, coauthors); and “No scent of ‘Torpedo’”, Global Competition Litigation Review, 2/2009 (L. Nascimbene coauthor).

Ms. Moretti joined the firm in 1990 and became a senior attorney in 2001. She moved to the Milan office after having worked for an extended period in the Frankfurt, Brussels, and New York offices. She received a law degree with honors from the University of Bologna in 1988 and an LL.M. degree from Harvard Law School in 1990. Before joining the firm, Ms. Moretti worked with the law firm of Giorgio Bernini in Bologna and collaborated with Professor Francesco Galgano at the University of Bologna.

Ms. Moretti has been a member of the Venice Bar since 1992. She is a native Italian speaker and is fluent in English, German and French.
