Cleary Gottlieb opened its São Paulo office in 2011 after more than 40 years of serving clients located or doing business in Brazil.

Our São Paulo office provides local and international clients with a broad range of U.S. and English legal services and offers Brazilian clients access to the firm’s global network of offices in the Americas, Europe and Asia. We advise clients on international financing (capital markets, project finance and restructuring), cross-border mergers and acquisitions, regulatory and tax issues, corporate governance, and litigation and arbitration.

Cleary repeatedly is recognized as one of the top international counsels in Brazil, with our work being acknowledged by Chambers Brazil, LatinFinance, IFLR and more. We have been counsel in over $80 billion in capital markets offerings by Brazilian issuers since 2005 and in nearly $120 billion in Brazil-related M&A transactions during the same period. Our São Paulo office is an integral part of Cleary’s Latin America practice, which includes more than 200 lawyers, including more than 40 Portuguese speakers across our international offices.

Reflecting the firm’s overall commitment to creating a seamlessly interwoven legal practice, our São Paulo office is not departmentalized by specialty. Many lawyers have had international experience, including rotations in one or more of our offices around the world; they are fluent in managing international transactions and dispute resolutions and collaborate easily with global colleagues. All our lawyers handle a wide variety of assignments and work cooperatively to share abilities across practices and jurisdictions.
