Juan G. Giráldez is a partner based in the São Paulo office.

Mr. Giráldez’s practice focuses on international financing and business transactions, particularly capital markets transactions, mergers and acquisitions, cross-border financings, joint ventures and privatizations.

Mr. Giráldez has advised in numerous capital markets offerings by Latin American issuers, including offerings by Vale, Edenor, Magnesita Refratários, Companhia Siderúrgica Nacional, Empresas ICA, GP Investmentos, Desarrolladora Homex, Net Serviços de Comunicação, Globo Participações and the Province of Buenos Aires.

Mr. Giráldez has acted as counsel on various acquisitions and investments in Latin America, including Pampa Energia’s acquisition of various Argentine energy assets from AEI; the $112 million sale of Link Investimentos, one of the largest independent broker-dealers in Brazil, to UBS; Vale’s $1.6 billion acquisition of assets in Brazil, Argentina and Canada from Rio Tinto and its $407 million sale of coal assets in Colombia. He has also acted as counsel to both debtors and creditors in various debt restructurings in Latin America, including Edenor, Mastellone, Centro Comercial Mexicana (CCM) and the Province of Buenos Aires.

Mr. Giráldez is distinguished as a leading lawyer in Latin America by Chambers Global, Chambers Latin America, The Legal 500 Latin America and Latin Lawyer 250: Latin America's Leading Business Law Firms for his Latin American expertise. 

Mr. Giráldez joined the New York office of the firm in 1998, became a partner in 2007 and joined the São Paulo office in August 2011. He received an LL.M. degree (James Kent Scholar) from Columbia University School of Law in 1998. He received a DEA degree in International Economic Law (Honor Mention) and a DSU degree in European Communities Law (Honor Mention) from the law school of the University of Paris II (Panthéon-Assas) in 1996 and a DSU degree in Commercial Law (Honor Mention) from the law school of the University of Paris II (Panthéon-Assas) in 1995. Mr. Giráldez received his law degree (magna cum laude) from the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, in 1994.

Mr. Giráldez is a member of the Bar in New York. He is fluent in English, Spanish, Portuguese and French.
